Oregon Classic Cat Show 2011!

As a mother of three FIV+ shelter cats, I have mixed feelings about the spirit of the Oregon Classic Cat Show. I went last year and had a ton of fun with my cat lady friend, Katrina. Though at the time Katrina and I both agreed that it would be better if all the cats were rescues and were up for adoption. Part of me feels that "showing" pure bred cats misses the whole spirit of being a cat owner.

At the same time, the cat show is fucking awesome. Rows and rows of lazy, pampered cats. These cats are all funky looking, to boot. It's rare for me to see pure breds and since I'm a huge fan of felines it's quite a treat.

These are not typical house cats. They have super distinctive features. Persians, Maine-Coons, British Short-Hairs, Scottish Folds, it goes on and on. The most fun was looking at these awesome (highly inbred) breeds and trying to figure out what my cats are made of. I think Bilton is a Turkish Van, The Bot is a Chinchilla and Bits is a Chocolate Lynx Point. Of course, they're "mutts" but that's my best guess for my three adopted baby boys.

This year I went to the Oregon Cat Classic with Shauna and Mikey. One of the most exciting moments for us was seeing this Colleen Donaghy lookalike. Mikey and Shauna posed in front of her so that we could document her fabulousness.

The set up was exactly the same as last year: rows and rows of cats in "cages" with the judging stages off to the sides. There are places to buy cat accessories in the corners of the expo center. (Also just like last year, next door the Gun Show was going on, which made for a funny mix of people in the parking lot.)

The saddest magnet in the world:

You can bet your sweet bippy that I'll be going to the Oregon Classic Cat Show in 2012. Though, I'm thinking I'm going to wear a t-shirt that says "FIV+" and tally how many dirty looks I get from fancy cat snobs.

Boom like you mean it.

A Typical Saturday Morning

Well, I suppose it's actually Saturday afternoon. When you wake up at 11am, it's my belief that the morning lasts until about 2pm.

So my first order of business on a Saturday morning is to feed the cats. They're used to being fed at around 7:30am on business days, so they're especially hungry on Saturday and Sunday...ahem mornings..ahem.

Once the cats are munching on their kibble, I brew myself some coffee in order to stem the tide of the raging headache that is pounding away at my frontal lobe. You see, I have an addiction. My body is used to having 2 cups of coffee by 9am, Monday thru Friday. On Saturday morning when it's 11am and I've had not a drop of caffeine, by brain starts to pound in my skull. So while the coffee's brewing, I drop 3 Tylenol. No big deal, my body is a temple, etc.

Now, I sit down to a cup of coffee and whatever book I happen to be reading at the time. Today it's this gem:

I'm a few chapters in to it and so far, it's really very interesting. Granted, Slash isn't the most prolific person, but he's an interesting dude who's had an interesting life. I will never ever do cocaine, nor will I bang a bunch of skanks, nor will I play an intstrument in front of thousands of screaming fans. So it's fun to read about someone who has and does all this stuff. Good for you, sir.

Welp, that's it. That's a glimpse in to a Saturday morning in Bush Wifedom.

As a slightly related side note, I must mention that my husband got Mrs. Campbell a job at his office and she is there this morning working away like the cute little red headed worker bee that she is. I wish her good luck! Yay for seasonal jobs and for friends doing stuff for eachother.

Peace out!

The Fruits of My Labor

Boom.

Thursday night I put together my cork board jewelry holder and I think it turned out pretty damn well. I got the fabric from the table cloths I made for the wedding.

Then I had quite a productive Sunday. While watching The Powder and the Glory and True Romance I painted the cats portraits.

Tonight I'm cleaning the bathrooms (including the litter boxes) and doing laundry. You know what? I'm even going to put my laundry away once I've cleaned it, because that's what adults do and I'm an adult.

Take that single Joy! Married Joy is such a together lady she can barely stand it.

She's Crafty, etc.

I went to Michael’s (My second favorite store after the ubiquitous Target) today and totally scored. Michael's is having a big sale right now so I intended to go there to purchase some storage bins on the cheap, but they were 1. overpriced (even at 50% off) and 2. wicker. Why is wicker so expensive? More to the point, why is wicker so ugly? The world may never know. So I'm thinking I'll have to go to The Container Store or some reasonable facsimile, so that I can find some stylish bins for my craft organization extravaganza.

So what did I score at Michael’s?

Cork Board to make one of these.
Canvas Panel 2 pack for painting portraits of my cats (I already have one canvas at home).
Fatty bottles of acrylic paints in white, black, brown, blue, red and yellow – see above.
Buzzy Grow Kits for sweet basil, poppy, curly parsley, black eyed susans and lavender.

Total: $37.33

Not bad at all.

I can’t wait to get my cork board project underway. I have seen this so many times on craft web sites and it never stops amazing me. I love to display my jewelry, but there was never a great way to do it. I have a few jewelry boxes, but I never use them because I like to have my jewelry out so that I’ll remember what I have.

I want to paint portraits of the cats because I love love love doodling pictures of them when I’m bored.

Example:
I feel like with the proper tools I could turn these doodles in to something that we could use to decorate our home and to celebrate our little furry babies.

The plants are for the home we have an offer in on. It’s got this awesomely humongous window sill in front of the kitchen window. It would be perfect for a little indoor garden. I’m trying not to go to nutso buying stuff for the house that we don’t have yet, but it’s getting harder the longer we wait to hear back from Freddie Mac (they own the house). The plants were 50% off and ended up being like $2 each. I believe that to be a sound investment. I’m going to wait to start them until we get in the house because right now our apartment is already too crammed with stuff.

To organization!
